Meet the Founder

At RDU Cabinet Coating, craftsmanship starts with experience, preparation, and attention to detail. Every project is approached with a hands-on commitment to quality, clear communication, and results built to last.

Moisé Tabon

Founder, RDU Cabinet Coating

Moisé’s experience with cabinetry began during his service in the United States Air Force Reserve, where he worked as a Structural Craftsman building and maintaining cabinetry and other infrastructure for operational environments. That experience helped shape the disciplined, detail-oriented approach he still brings to his work today.

Over the years, his experience expanded through construction, carpentry, cabinetry, and custom projects for his own home, family, friends, and referrals. With more than 10 years of hands-on experience, Moisé developed a strong understanding of how cabinets are built, how surfaces should be prepared, and what it takes to achieve a durable, professional finish.

As more homeowners began asking for cabinet transformations without the cost and disruption of full replacement, he saw an opportunity to build a company around that need.

For Moisé, craftsmanship is about more than appearance. It is about preparation, precision, reliability, and delivering work he would be proud to have in his own home.

Why RDU Cabinet Coating Was Created

RDU Cabinet Coating was founded in 2022 with a simple belief: good cabinetry should not have to be replaced just to create a completely transformed space. The company grew from hands-on experience and increasing demand for professional cabinet refinishing. What began with projects for Moisé’s own home and close network expanded organically through referrals and satisfied customers, ultimately becoming a dedicated cabinet refinishing and custom cabinetry business serving Raleigh and the Triangle.

Today, RDU Cabinet Coating helps homeowners update kitchens, bathrooms, built-ins, and other cabinetry through professional refinishing, refacing, and select custom-built solutions. Our goal is to provide a practical, high-quality alternative to unnecessary cabinet replacement while improving the appearance, function, and value of the spaces we work in.

As the company grows, that purpose extends beyond individual projects. We are building a business known for craftsmanship, reliability, skilled work, and long-term value for the homeowners and communities we serve.

Our Approach

What sets RDU Cabinet Coating apart is not simply the finished cabinet—it is the process behind it. Every project begins with an honest evaluation of the existing cabinetry, the homeowner’s goals, and the best path forward. We do not believe every kitchen needs new cabinets, and we do not recommend unnecessary work simply to make a project larger.

Once the right solution is established, preparation becomes the foundation of the finished result. Cabinet surfaces are carefully cleaned, prepared, sanded, and repaired where needed before professional coatings are applied using spray equipment and cabinet-specific finishing products.

After finishing, doors, drawer fronts, hardware, and other components are carefully reassembled and aligned, followed by detailing, inspection, and a final walkthrough. Just as important as the craftsmanship is the experience throughout the project. Homeowners can expect clear communication, reliable scheduling, an organized workspace, respect for their home, and direct accountability from start to finish.

Our standard is simple: Prepare carefully. Execute precisely. Communicate clearly. Deliver work that lasts.

Have Questions?

We’ve Got Answers.

Everything You Need to Know Before You Create

Q1: How long does cabinet refinishing take?

Most cabinet refinishing projects are completed in about one week or less, depending on the size of the kitchen, the condition of the cabinets, and the scope of work. We provide a clear project timeline before work begins so you know what to expect.

Q2: Do you spray or brush the cabinets?

We professionally spray our cabinet finishes rather than brush them. This allows us to achieve a smoother, more consistent finish with the clean appearance homeowners expect from professionally refinished cabinetry.

Q3: Do you remove the cabinet doors?

Yes. Cabinet doors and drawer fronts are removed from the home and refinished at our shop, where we can properly prepare and spray them in a controlled environment. The cabinet frames and fixed surfaces are prepared and finished on site.

Q4: Can oak cabinets be refinished?

Yes. Oak cabinets can be refinished successfully. Because oak has a naturally pronounced grain, we evaluate the existing wood and desired finish to determine the best preparation process and set realistic expectations for the final appearance.

Q5: Can you refinish previously painted cabinets?

Yes, in many cases. Previously painted cabinets can often be refinished as long as the existing coating and cabinet surfaces are in suitable condition. We assess the cabinets first to determine the preparation needed for a durable new finish.

Q6: What is the difference between cabinet refinishing and refacing?

Cabinet refinishing keeps your existing cabinet doors, drawer fronts, and boxes while updating the finish and color.

Cabinet refacing keeps the existing cabinet boxes but replaces the doors and drawer fronts, giving you the opportunity to change the door style as well as the overall appearance of the kitchen.

Q7: Can you replace only my doors and drawer fronts?

Potentially. In some kitchens, replacing only the doors and drawer fronts is a practical option. Each project needs to be evaluated to make sure the new components will work properly with the existing cabinet boxes, hinges, and layout.

Q8: Do I need to empty my entire kitchen?

Usually, no. You only need to remove the items you expect to use during the project. Most belongings can remain inside the cabinets while we work, provided the cabinet interiors are not part of the refinishing scope.

Q9: How durable is the finish?

We use professional, industrial-grade finishing products made specifically for cabinetry. Combined with proper cleaning, preparation, sanding, and spray application, these products are designed to provide a durable finish that can stand up to everyday kitchen use.

Q10: How much does cabinet refinishing cost compared with replacing cabinets?

Cabinet refinishing typically costs a fraction of what it would cost to replace an entire kitchen with new cabinetry. The exact savings depend on the size and condition of the kitchen, but refinishing is often an excellent option when the existing cabinet boxes are still structurally sound and the homeowner wants a major visual update without a full replacement.

Q11: Do you offer staining?

We primarily specialize in sprayed cabinet coatings, refinishing and refacing rather than traditional staining. If you’re looking for a natural wood appearance, contact us and we’ll help determine whether refinishing, refacing, new doors, or another solution makes the most sense for your existing cabinetry.
